Vissla Seven Seas Wetsuit Review

Since 2013, Vissla has represented creators and innovators within the surf industry. It’s for surfers who resonate with the craftsmanship, progression, performance, and expression of surfing at its core. With that said, we're going to review the Vissla Seven Seas Wetsuit line: created to offer effective performance and features at a price that is accessible to everyone.

Vissla Seven Seas Wetsuit

Neoprene and Liners

The suit is constructed entirely of Super Stretch limestone-based neoprene and feels extremely soft and flexible. Limestone-based neoprene uses fewer petrochemicals, and the Eco Carbon Black, created from recycled rubber tires, reduces the CO2 emissions by 200g per wetsuit produced.

The Seven Seas has two different liners: Fever Fiber in the body of the suit and Eco Fiber in the legs. The Fever Fiber has more stretch and insulation than the Thermal Brain fuzz used in the previous model. The Fever Fiber is strategically placed in the suit's core for ultimate insulation, whereas the Eco Fiber is used throughout the legs, allowing for greater movement. After rinsing and hanging the suit to dry, I found Fever Fiber dried out quicker than the Eco Fiber.

Seams and Stitching

The first thing that stood out about the Seven Seas was the complete interior seam taping throughout the body of the suit. Starting in 2022, Vissla used their improved NEO 3.0 tape, promising greater flexibility and seal. I look for taping in my suits because I find them far more comfortable without the exposed internal seams. Vissla’s new taping did a great job keeping water out of the suit while remaining flexible.

On top of that, all the seams are triple glued and blind stitched (GBS). With the combo of GBS and the NEO 3.0 tape, the Seven Seas is toasty warm with minimal water seeping in. The seam construction has held up nicely over the life of the suit.

Fit and Cut

At 6’3” and 190lbs, the Large Tall fit was snug but remained very comfortable. I found there to be some bunching behind the knees if the suit wasn’t adjusted properly. Over the past two months of using the suit, I’ve only had it flush once or twice.

Entry and Zipper

The entry of the Seven Seas was very effective at preventing flushing due to the two-piece entry that fits snuggly close to the neck. One downside is that I found it to be a tad difficult to get in and out. I appreciated that the hood wasn’t too difficult to get on and off. It was comfortable and never felt too tight.

Performance

Typically, I tend to run a bit cold, so finding a suit that helps prolong my time in the water is always a priority. During my first surf session with the suit, I noticed how quickly the suit warmed up and continued to stay toasty throughout my time in the 52-degree water.

The liquid tape cuff seals on the ankle and wrists did a great job at staying put during my sessions and remained watertight.

Value and Durability

I was impressed by the quality of the suit upon holding it for the first time. Compared to similarly priced wetsuits, the eco-friendly neoprene doesn’t stretch out over time like other rubbers.

Vissla pushes to improve its environmental friendliness by using Dope Dyed Yarn as a way to reduce its water usage and contamination within the dying process.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Seven Seas has impressed me with its flexibility, warmth, and durability. I find paddling in the suit very effortless and unrestricted in comparison to similarly priced wetsuits. After months of use, the suit is still holding up very nicely. It has continued to fit well and keep me warm. For those looking for a good quality suit under $350, the Seven Seas is sure to stoke you out.
