Product Info

Dan Mann and Taylor Jensen's traditional longboard model, taking cues from the 'old school.' Traditionalists rejoice because the Taylor Jensen Series Special T Helium Timbertek Surfboard is the modern answer to your classic shape needs. Keeping with a traditional outline, the Special T tightens here and pinches there creating a smooth sailing glider that can be ridden all over the wave. Despite his preference for high performance longboarding, Taylor is an accomplished noserider so he wanted his Firewire models to include a design more suited to traditional longboarding.

Product Construction

Helium Core Technology
A stringerless EPS core with flex controlled at the rails made from Paulownia and Balsa wood - this construction is light and lively underfoot, and excellent at generating speed in everyday waves.

Timbertek Lamination Technology
One of the most sustainable surfboard constructions you'll find, made with Paulownia wood.

Additional Info

Dann Mann on the Special T, “despite his preference for high performance longboarding, Taylor is an accomplished noserider so he wanted his Firewire models to include a design more suited to traditional longboarding. I’ve personally always enjoyed the stylish nature of the ‘old school’ and in particular, riding an original Phil Edwards board that my dad has."

Dan continued, “After a ton of input from Taylor combined with my own experience, we developed The Special T. The rails have a soft 50/50 curve, along with a scoop nose concave and extra tail flip. We also relaxed the nose entry rocker to enhance tip riding, allowing riders maximum glide and trim with ease."

Helium Core Technology

Firewire Product Construction Helium Core Technology

This is your ideal technology choice for generating speed in weak, everyday waves. The Firewire Helium technology is a stringerless 1.0 lb EPS foam core with flex controlled with rails made from Paulownia and Balsa wood, running the complete length from nose to tail, combined with a 3mm proprietary aerospace composite deck skin.

The wood rails enable a lively flex in the rail that gives a loaded-up, spring-back feeling, and the deck skins make your board feel this way for a long time.

Helium deck skins are beneficial for both durability and performance - and have a memory that will rebound back to form after being compressed, making it very responsive in addition to keeping your deck surface pristine for many years.

Helium Performance
Ideal for generating speed in weak, everyday waves - this is your choice if you want unmatched response, lightweight and durability. Helium has a lively, responsive flex underfoot, and surfs quickly and explosively when creating tight angles.

Helium Construction

Helium Lamination Compatibility
Helium cores are paired with fiberglass lamination, Volcanic lamination, Timbertek lamination, or Artificial Wave Technology fiberglass lamination.

Timbertek Lamination Technology

Firewire Product Construction Timbertek Lamination Technology

Made from one of the fastest-growing trees in the world, Paulownia, Timbertek technology is one of the lowest CO2-emitting constructions available - making it your most sustainable surfboard constructions in production today. This species of tree grows up to twenty feet in a single year, and has the nickname, 'The Phoneix Tree,' because when they're cut down, they regenerate incredibly quickly from existing root systems. It's also incredibly durable and nearly impossible to dent, extending the life of your board.

Timbertek Performance
Firewire's most sustainable construction with quick response. This lamination technology is incredibly durable, and surfs powerfully and steadily. It feels solid and carries momentum down the line.

Timbertek Construction
The Firewire Timbertek lamination schedule is a 3mm Paulownia wood deck skin that wraps a Helium core, capped with a single 4 oz layer of fiberglass cloth on the deck and bottom.

Timbertek Core Capability
Timbertek lamination is paired with a Helium core with one minor difference. Rather than a 3mm aerospace composite deck skin, it's core has a 3mm veneer paulownia wood deck skin.

A Fun Session

I rode the demo of this board at Shorty's last summer and had fun on it. I normally ride heavily glassed retro longboards, so I was a bit apprehensive about how the Timber Tech would feel, the weight, the flex, etc. This board is definitely an old school ride, but could cut back really fast due to the edge in the tail. Not as much flex as other Firewire boards I've rode, which was good. Knee paddled well. Caught waves easily. Rode the nose pretty good. I only had one session on it, but I think I could grow to enjoy ridding it more if I were to move the fin around in the box or try other fins. Well worth considering buying if you want a retro longboard with some built in performance.
