Product Info

When the going gets cold, the suit better be warm. The Men’s R5® Yulex® Hooded Front-Zip is Patagonia’s “don’t even worry about the snow on the sand” wetsuit. Built for frigid temps in the 32-38 degrees Fahrenheit-zone, this neoprene-free wetsuit matches warmth and durability with comfort, stretch and all of this season’s new updates. If the water’s damn-near freezing, you’re not going to want to think twice about the rubber armor you’re wearing; and, with this suit, you won’t have to.

Patagonia’s wetsuit line has been completely redesigned this season. The new suits feature an updated patterning across the back shoulder seam for ease of motion while paddling; a wider, lower-profile internal seam tape for utmost comfort; new 100% recycled, ultra-soft polyester arm and leg linings that saves 18 water bottles per suit; 100% recycled spandex in the external and internal thermal linings; AQUAa water-based glue; and, solution-dyed linings. They’re still constructed from a neoprene-free blend of 85% Yulex® natural rubber from sources that are FSC® certified by the Rainforest Alliance (meaning the forest of hevea trees––the source of the rubber––doesn’t come from a newly cut rainforest) and 15% synthetic rubber by polymer content. All Patagonia’s wetsuits are Fair Trade Certified™ sewn (the only Fair Trade Certified™ wetsuits in the industry, by the way).

Best all around suit

A great suit for all around warmth. I wear the suit daily allowing me to ride without the need of boots or gloves giving me a more free sense of being in the ocean without the worry of getting cold. The suit is slightly stiffer than my billabong furnace comp but gives me way more buoyancy out in the water and the built in hood keeps water from flushing through when I duck dive a little better than my old suit. Plus the lifetime warranty gives me complete confidence in the product and I'm never afraid to see what limits it will allow me to reach, especially come winter time!

6'5" 180lbs LT is Perfect

I'm 6'5", 180 lbs and the LT is the perfect size. Great mobility with a snug fit. I use my wetsuits hard while hunting for gold in CA rivers. The R5 lets me get in the water during the early season while the snow is melting and keeps me plenty warm! Lots of contact with the rocks etc means wear and tear is much more than surfing/diving, but it's holding up well by adding some neoprene knee and elbow patches right out of the box cut from an old wetsuit. If you're in the coldest water you want the R5.

Maine Surfer
Well built suit for long winter sessions

Worn this suit multiple times now in 42-44 degree water in Maine. Surfed 2+ hours each session and stayed nice and warm. Little pricey but worth it if you're a cold water surfer.

The R5 is waaaay thick and heavy!

I'm a total wuss and like to be warm, but ... the R5 / 6mm was too much for me.... Look at the R4 for a better all-around, multi-season suit. Oh yeah - the Patagonia quality is PHENOMENAL!!

CleanLine rips this wetsuit not so much

CleanLine is a phenomenal shop. I’ve been doing business with them for years and always recommend them
Personally this may be the worst wetsuit I’ve ever owned. Surfed 45 degree water 30 degree air small day today first time out with the suit
No idea why they call 32-38 degrees for this? I figured I’d be baking not so
Cold from the jump. Extremely inflexible. Flushes.
Back to my Psycho Tech- 1x wear and this suit is relegated to the dust bin
Bummer
