The Patagonia R3 Yulex 4.5/3.5 Chest Zip Wetsuit is for the chillier, but not frigid, surf zones around the world. R3® Yulex® Front-Zip leaves a lighter impact on the natural world while keeping you feeling warm and loose. For water temps ranging from 48-55 degrees Fahrenheit, at 4.5/3.5mm, this suit won’t flail or fail.
Patagonia’s wetsuit line has been completely redesigned this season. The new suits feature an updated patterning across the back shoulder seam for ease of motion while paddling; a wider, lower-profile internal seam tape for utmost comfort; new 100% recycled, ultra-soft polyester arm and leg linings that saves 18 water bottles per suit; 100% recycled spandex in the external and internal thermal linings; AQUAa water-based glue; and, solution-dyed linings. They’re still constructed from a neoprene-free blend of 85% Yulex® natural rubber from sources that are FSC® certified by the Rainforest Alliance (meaning the forest of hevea trees––the source of the rubber––doesn’t come from a newly cut rainforest) and 15% synthetic rubber by polymer content. All Patagonia’s wetsuits are Fair Trade Certified™ sewn (the only Fair Trade Certified™ wetsuits in the industry, by the way).

Warranty
This product is backed by a warranty from the manufacturer. Click below for details on the warranty policy for Patagonia products.
Patagonia Ironclad Guarantee
We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits
require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were
intended. Patagonia is not responsible for wetsuits that are abused or show
normal wear and tear over time. Scratches and fading are inevitable, as are
tears from the occasional close call with a fin.
Wetsuit Care Guideline:
Rinse your wetsuit with fresh water after every use.
After rinsing, fold in half at waist and hang dry.
Do not store it wet, or in direct sunlight.
Suit up carefully. We've selected high-stretch materials for their
comfort and function. Avoid overstretching fabric and seams. Do not step
on one leg to pull the other leg out.
If possible, change in a plastic tub or on a mat
Our wetsuit warranty does not cover upgrading your older Patagonia wetsuit
to a current model. We are continuously improving our designs and materials,
but that doesn't make your existing wetsuit unsatisfactory. It just means
that the next one you buy will be even better than the last.

Initial Impression - Looks Well Made and Quality
Initial impressions is that the suit looks extremely durable. Welded seams on the outside and glued and taped on the inside. Knee pad material is rugged and also placed around the ankle area. You will lose some flexibility with the extra .5mm rubber, but I was looking for a little more warmth winter and durability. There is an annoying seam across the shoulder blades that seem oddly placed, but I can get used to it. Wasn't the easiest suit to put on and may need a break in period from the looks of it. I'm 6'4 and 220lbs and went with the 2XL.

Awesome
I got this 3 years ago. The Yulex doesn’t restrict and it’s super durable. It hasn’t gotten thin and leaky like my old O’Neill. (I keep cementing patches on the O’Neil, but the neoprene is so thin now that it’s my summer suit.). The seams on each side of the Patagonia suit did finally split where I tug to pull it on, but Patagonia repaired it for free. One of my favorite things is that it fits perfectly. I have a hard time getting a wetsuit (or anything) that fits because I’m a 6’2” woman with an athletic build (36x32x41, 155lbs, 36” inseam) and the medium tall fits perfectly. And, of course, they’re the leaders in environmental and fair trade responsibility.

Great service, too early to tell on suit
Listen, we all know the scam of the early review. I don't believe a product is worth a review until it has been thoroughly USED, which hasn't happened by the time the product is received! You can thank Amazon for starting this insane trend. BUT I have nothing but love for Cleanline surf, who provided me with more knowledgeable customer service about this suit than even Patagonia could - and the suit size we decided on ended up fitting PERFECTLY. Regarding fit, I am a tall, FIT man and the large tall as specified fits me better than most wetsuits - no air pockets! It is indeed considerably warmer than any comparably thick neoprene wetsuit I've ever worn. Really hoping it's durable, but we shall see. My surf wetsuits generally last 3 years with a weekly sesh. Let's hope!

Worth the steep price
You're buying something that's going to last. It works, and it's not made of plastic. Chest zip comes with a keyloop inside.
