O'Neill Hyperfreak 4/3+ Chest Zip Wetsuit

Fits great, very comfortable, easy to get into. (The new model of the zipless version of this suit is very narrow at the shoulders/chest and was too tight. This suit is great!)

Went from an O’Neill O'riginal 4/3, to the Hyperfreak 4/3, and I am not disappointed at all. Movement is not compromised, nor warmth (even without the slick skin front like the “o”riginal). worth every penny!

Very happy with this suit and the help of clean line surf website! Great quality, really warm suit I can’t feel the cold water in LA!

I’ve tried most of the O’Neill wetsuits in their product line over the last few years and this is definitely the one to buy. Flexibility is superior, especially in the upper body, and warmth is very good. Easy of entry/exit is very good and gets easier with increased use. The only knock is the durability and the sleeves will be destroyed by leash or board bag Velcro, so keep away. The pros outweigh the cons on this suit. Here’s my 2 cents on some other suits I’ve tried, which ultimately led me to the Hyperfreak.

• Psycho Tech- I had my eye on this wetsuit for a long time, but when I finally ordered it, it was the worst wetsuit I had ever tried on. Ever. The material was so constricting, it was brutal just putting it on. Once on, I struggled to lift my arms above my shoulders and the legs were just as restrictive. Hard pass.

• Hyperfreak- I had the 5/4 hooded version for 2+ years and worked very well. I just wish this suit had a rubber chest wind panel.

• Mutant Legend 4.5- On paper, the best suit out there, but the fully detached zipper is extremely annoying to align when rushing to get into the water and when your fingers are numb when you get out of the water.

• Ninja- Had zero expectations for this suit, but gets the job done, especially for the once a month surfers out there. Not as warm as others, but very easy to get on. Great beater or car backup suit.

• I really miss the Superfreak, which is no longer made, but that suit had the perfect balance of flexibility, warmth, durability, and had the rubber chest panel. Hope this helps your search!

This is my 3rd Hyperfreak 4/3 and I hope O’Neill doesn’t change a thing about it. Super stretchy and plenty warm for me year round. I do bring some of my own insulation as I’m a fat guy and O’Neill is the only company that cuts a suit realizing fat folks surf too. So an XXL O’Neill suit truly fits as an XXL should. I’ve had a few other brands double X and they need to learn from these guys. The O’Neill Mutant was my favorite suit until I tried the Hyperfreak. So, as long as they don’t change too much on it. I’ll keep on using them. Also, thanks Cleanline crew for always being rad folks and keeping tons of stuff in stock.
