Firewire Surf: Best New Surf Accessories for 2025

Firewire Surfboards is now selling surf bags and accessories. With a strong reputation in the surf industry, Firewire is known for producing high-quality surfboards. In this blog, we’ll provide a brief overview of the brand, highlight its latest offerings, and take a look at the products that have helped establish it as one of the leading names in the surf industry. Whether you’re new to Firewire surfboards or have been a long-time customer, we have all the insights into their latest innovative surf bags, leashes, a fin case, and a surf backpack.

History of Firewire

Firewire Surfboards is a successor to the NEV Surfboards brand. Neville Hyman founded NEV Surfboards in 1981 from humble beginnings in Western Australia. While playing a crucial role in the development of computer-driven shaping and manufacturing, Neville Hyman made boards for surfing legends like Wendy Botha, Kelly Slater, and Mark Occhilupo.

In March of 2006, Firewire was established through a collaboration with Bert Burger. With a novel construction using solely EPS foam, balsa, and epoxy resin, Firewire quickly became the go-to surfboard distributor. Not only was Firewire using strong, sustainable materials, but they also had an efficient way of mass-producing any shape. Chuy Reyna, the head of marketing, started working for Firewire in 2006, and we were lucky enough to have an interview with him in 2019 (Interview with Chuy Renya).

In 2015, 11-time WSL world champion Kelly Slater invested in Firewire surfboards, further securing the company's future. Firewire then revolutionized surfboard construction again by committing to sustainability with an introduction to 100% EPS/Epoxy constructions.

Today, Firewire Surfboards supplies the industry with many sought-after shapes. Not only do they offer tried-and-true shapes, but they are also still pushing the boundaries of surfboard design and innovation. Rob Machado, Kelly Slater, and Taylor Jenson are current riders for Firewire Surfboards, and they offer a wide variety of pro models. Taylor Jenson won the 2024 WSL longboard championship and is the current #1 rider in the world.

Firewire All Day Surfboard Bag - $92.00+

Firewire Shortboard Surfboard Bag

The Firewire All Day surfboard bag is offered in a shortboard style, ranging from 5’10 to 6’10, and a mid-length/longboard style, ranging from 8’0 to 9’8. The bag is built for functionality and has a slim, minimalistic design. Although simplistic, it does not lack durability or padding.

With 5mm of padding throughout and reinforced nose/tail blocks, the Firewire All Dat bag will easily handle any of your rowdiest surf day missions. Attention to detail is key when it comes to surfboard bags, and Firewire includes lots of detail, such as molded air vents, an expanding tail, and a heavy gauge zipper.

Firewire Black Mesh Surfboard Sock Cover - $46.00+

Firewire Mesh Surfboard Sock

The Black Mesh surfboard sock cover is built with a double-construction mesh design for ventilation and protection. The bag has a reinforced PET nylon nose for added protection and a roll-up opening closure fit to secure any style of board. It is offered in Shortboard, Hybrid, and Mid-Length/longboard styles.

If you’re looking for a minimalistic sock that is affordable and has everything you need to protect your board from daily transportation, this Black Mesh Sock is a great option. The roll-top closure system is unique for a surfboard sock and is a great way to get a snug fit on your board.

Additionally, it is built in a Slater Designs S-labs version, which is constructed slightly differently with terry fleece and a drawstring closure.

Firewire All Day Leash - $40.00+

Firewire Regular Camo Surfboard Leash

As of 2025, Firewire is selling leashes! The Firewire All-Day leash comes in two different styles: a regular and a longboard version. The only difference between the two leashes is the sizes offered; the all-day regular is available in 6’, 7’, and 8’ and the longboard is made in a 10' length.

At 7mm of thickness, you won’t have to worry about this leash breaking. This leash fits in well with Firewire's strong reputation of providing high-performance gear. If you’re looking for a reliable and comfortable leash that will help you maximize your surfing, no need to look any further.

Firewire All Day Roll Top Surf Pack Backpack - $102.00

Firewire Surfboard 30L Backpack

All new for 2025, Firewire now makes a 30L Roll-Top surf backpack. This bag excels in durability and is completely waterproof. The roll-top pocket is built to fit a wetsuit, boots, gloves, and hood easily. With loops on the bag's exterior, you can also attach extra items to the outside of the backpack.

The bag also has a laptop-specific pocket and a chest strap for even weight distribution, which is crucial for those short approaches. Have you ever overpacked your surf bag? I have, and it is not comfortable or efficient to use a bag that is not designed for weight distribution.

Firewire Fin Case Wallet - $36.00

Firewire Fin Case Wallet

The Firewire fin case wallet is an excellent option for those surfers looking to be ready no matter what the swell brings. To have your fins organized and easily accessible is key to getting the most out of your session. With two longboard fin slots and four shortboard slots, this fin wallet has plenty of storage in a compact form. Although most fins have strong constructions, accidents still happen, and this fin case has ample protection to keep your fins in top-notch shape. So don’t fret; Firewire has you covered when it comes to storing fins to make them last a lifetime.

Other Firewire Surf Accessories

Firewire Machado Seaside Future Quad Fin Set

Surfboard Fins - $120.00+

Firewire has been making fins for almost as long as they have been making surfboards. If you make a board, you need some fins to meet its characteristics. They make board-specific fin sets and a variety of universal sets. Kelly Slater, “the goat” in competitive surfing, has his own fin brand, Endorfins, that is advertised and produced by Firewire. A unique aspect of Endorphins is that they float in the water. It doesn’t impact your surfing, but it will prevent your fins from sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

Firewire surfboard fins are also heavily influenced by Rob Machado, a longtime professional and free surfer who has multiple pro models with Firewire. The only style of fins Firewire doesn’t make are longboard fins; other than that, they have quad, thruster, and twin fins available.

Firewire Lowrider-3 Piece Traction Pad

Surfboard Traction - $35.00+

Everything you need and nothing you don’t; Firewire has a small inventory of traction pads, but they check all the boxes for different styles of boards. Whether you’re surfing a fish, shortboard, or mid-length, Firewire has a traction that will work for you. They also sell Slater design traction pads, a brand created by Kelly Slater through a partnership with Firewire.

James grew up as a snowboarder in the Wasatch Mountain range, with an admiration of the sea. After catching his first wave and soaking up the sea breeze, he gained an eternal love for surfing. Nowadays, he lives to ride sideways and is stoked to share his passions with others while writing blogs and working on the Customer Service team. If you don’t see him at the surf break, he’ll be pumping a bowl or ripping down a mountain.
