Cleanline Surf Grom Day 2023
Cleanline Surf's 8th annual Grom Day kickstarted the summer stoke for nearly 50 kids in attendance! The day began early with beautiful blue skies and a small beginner-friendly swell. Yas, the manager at the Seaside shop, coordinates the day and spends weeks preparing for Cleanline’s biggest community event of the year. Overall, it was a super fun day with nothing but positive feedback.
Grom Day started back in 2015 as the original brainchild of Tony, a longtime local surf instructor. Tony teamed up with Cleanline Surf’s owner Josh, as a way to give back to the community. Josh has been surfing almost his whole life and is eager to share the experience and stoke with the next generation of surfers.
Cleanline’s new online rental program allowed the day to start smoothly. Parents could lock in the proper surf gear beforehand to help keep the day flowing without any hiccups. Because of the generosity of local volunteers, comprised of current and former employees, Yas could safely accommodate a large number of groms. The Cleanline team was stoked to spend their Saturday morning standing out in the surf while pushing grom after grom into the waves. Shrieks of joy were heard over the crashing waves at the feeling of that very first pop-up.
With a mixture of local kids and a few vacationing families, many of the participants are from families that may not even surf. “The neat thing is that parents trust the Cleanline Staff to watch out for the kids while taking water safety seriously,” said Yas. What started as a jumble of groms and a few volunteers eight years ago has become a full-fledged surf party with free rentals, BBQ, raffles, and prizes.
“I find the most magic in the water with my friends and family beside me. When my instructor guides me into a wave, I feel like I’m flying.”
- Anima A., Grom
“I think I had just as much fun pushing groms into waves as I did on my most epic surf session. Everyone was smiling and having fun. Stoked to see groms catching waves for the first time in their lives.”
- Sarah H. Cleanline Volunteer
Thanks again to Yas and her team for providing another unforgettable Grom Day! The stoke level was at an all-time high amongst groms and staff alike. What more could a kid ask for - an epic surf session with the Cleanline team topped off with a free hot dog and swag! As one parent noted, “It’s really awesome you do this at the start of the summer so we can connect and have surf buddies for the rest of the summer.”
Till next year, see ya out in the water.
