Fit and Cut

The sizing feels similar to O’Neill wetsuits, with a little extra room in the shoulders and hips, which makes paddling effortless. This also provides a secure, water-tight fit for individuals with slightly broader shoulders, back, or chest. 

The shoulder design allowed for a full range of motion, so you'll never feel restricted while paddling, even during long sessions. The neckline has plenty of room, preventing any uncomfortable squeezing, and the hood is well-cut, easy to adjust, and stays in place, even in heavy conditions. At first glance, the entry looks small compared to a back zip, but getting in and out is effortless—even if you have broad shoulders. That said, if you struggle with shoulder flexibility or getting in and out of a wetsuit, this might be one of the best available options for you.

Performance

The Billabong Furnace Ultra truly sets the standard for flexibility and warmth at this price point, whether compared to eco-friendly wetsuits or traditional neoprene options. Right out of the gate, you'll notice how easy it is to get on and off, thanks to the super-stretchy natural rubber and Gullwing zipper.  Next, you'll feel the comfort of the Graphene Ultra liner, which is soft and smooth on the skin. Then, you'll realize how warm the liner is by surfing for long periods of time without getting cold.

In reality, you could probably wear a 4/3 in 5/4 water temps because the graphene liner is so warm. However, it is not recommended, as a warmer wetsuit is better, so you are prepared for any session. Additionally, you can always let water in to cool down, but it is hard to warm up if you're too cold.

That said, a bit more reinforcement at the ankle openings would have been a nice touch for added longevity and a water-tight seal. For warranty coverage, Billabong includes a 2-year warranty on stitching and a 12-month warranty on materials, workmanship, and liquid-welded seams.
