Our Take: The Hyperfreak 3/2+ is an outstanding option for any surfer wanting to perform at their highest level. O’Neill’s famous Technobutter 3 neoprene is used throughout the body and legs of the wetsuit, while Technobutter 3X is used in the arms and shoulders for even greater mobility. Since being introduced to the wetsuit industry, the Hyperfreak has been a top seller.

My favorite feature of the Hyperfreak is the F.U.Z.E. closure system. It makes entry and exit of the wetsuit swift by having the zipper pre-attached. The F.U.Z.E closure system also includes drain holes in critical locations to prevent the wetsuit from filling up with water. I wouldn’t say the Hyperfreak is as durable as the high-end Psycho Tech; however, it still includes a minimal seam design that prevents tearing.

Rip Curl E-Bomb - $349.95

“Conservation of Energy through Flexibility"

Our Take: Arguably, the Hyperfreak’s main competition, the Rip Curl E-Bomb, is up there on the flexible scorecard. The E-Bomb excels in comfort as well. That, paired with the flexibility, will have you extending your sessions with very little paddle fatigue. If a high-performing wetsuit is what you need, then look no further. Lastly, with sealed cuffs and a hydro-loc smooth skin collar, flushing is almost non-existent.

“Go-to choice for bigger dudes"

Our Take: Another wetsuit worthy of featuring is the O’Neill Heat 3/2. The Heat stands out in terms of durability and warmth. It’s also one of the best options for bigger surfers: offered in sizes up to 4XL. Larger sizes are not often found in high-performance suits, and plus-sized surfers are lucky that O’Neill has kept the Heat in production over the years.

The O'Neill Heat is well worth the price. It features TechnoButter 3 neoprene, sealed seams, internal taping, and a warm Firewall interior liner. With its outer glued seams and strategically placed seams, the O’Neill Heat is one of the best options on this list for durability.
