Additional Info

Why you'll love this fin
Originally intended to be paired with the ‘modified displacement hull’ surfboards. a board design that is borrowed from the same hydrodynamic principles in boat hulls–it has a convex bottom contour which enables riders to trim more forward and find plane in waves with less power. This fin has become a widely popular option for an array of wave riding equipment; it pairs especially well with boards that are designed for acceleration, full rail carves, and smooth transitions.

Form | Slender profile, thinner precision foil with optimal flex.

Function | Provides down-the-line projection and positive response through turns.

Feel | Will give your board an energetic and alive feeling.

Overall | A solid and well-rounded choice for sensitive type surfboards that can benefit from engineered flex, fast acceleration, and full rail engagement.

Materials
A fin design is only as good as the materials used for construction. At True Ames, they carefully select the most well-suited types of fiberglass and wood for producing the highest quality fins available. In order to achieve the performance characteristics that have become the standard of solid fiberglass surf fins, True Ames uses E-glass. It is the most common type of fiberglass used in surfboard construction, and its qualities translate with great success into fin construction. E-glass has excellent flex characteristics and performance longevity, while featuring the bonus of outstanding color vibrancy that allows for the variety of colors we offer.

History & Origin

Greg Liddle is a pioneering surfer and surfboard shaper whose work has had a lasting influence on the evolution of alternative surfboard design, particularly within the displacement hull movement. Emerging from Southern California’s surf scene in the 1960s, Liddle was deeply inspired by George Greenough’s revolutionary approach to hydrodynamics and surfing style. He began shaping boards that emphasized speed, trim, and flow — long, sleek hulls designed for smooth, high-line surfing in clean point breaks. His minimalist boards became synonymous with a purist approach to surfing, prioritizing glide and connection to the wave over aggressive maneuvers. Over the decades, Liddle’s shapes have achieved cult status, influencing generations of surfers and shapers seeking that effortless, down-the-line feel unique to his designs. Way back, when True Ames was in the early days of making fins, Greg Liddle consistently provided foiling critiques and guidance in order to pair the very best fins with his boards. Now, after almost 40 years of producing the L-Flex Collection, it is still one of our favorite lines we carry.
