Additional Info
Solarez Microlite repair putty is a mixture of clear, high strength polyester resin, 3M Microballoons and an amazing solar-activated catalyst. It gels in 5 seconds, curing in 3 minutes when exposed to sunlight. You can also deep-cure by MEKP catalyst.
Genuine 3M glass microballoon-filled light viscosity putty that quickly (<3 minutes) cures when exposed to sunlight / UV light source or MEKP catalyst. It is compatible with polyurethane (CLARK) foam, but not EPS. You will want to fill deep dings with this lightweight, easy-to-sand filler instead of solid, heavy, resin. It has outstanding surface cure, excellent adhesion & sanding. Repair your board the way that it was built !
Check to see if your board is EPS or polyurethane core before using because this product will melt EPS core. Below, you will see some ways to tell what you have. If you are still uncertain, use our blue tube EPOXY Microlite that is compatible with either type of core. This product complies with the following regulations: REACH, TSCA, IECSC, METI & CLP Hazard.
UV Cure
Natural mid-day sunlight in temperate latitudes is ample for good curing. Cure times are influenced by many factors; UV index (time of day, daily and seasonal arc-path of the sun, latitude, cloud cover, smog, altitude (higher altitudes cure faster). If indoor curing is necessary, UV fluorescent tanning bulbs are a low-cost, relatively safe & effective curing method. Grow lights or "blacklights" won't work. Mercury vapor (metal halide) arc-lamps are highly effective however they pose hazards (heat, ozone, harmful to eyes) to the user. LED lamps are safe & effective but a bit pricey. LED lights have extremely specific wavelengths (#5nm) whereas wideband wavelengths cure better.
Directions
Surfaces need to be free of wax, oil, grease. Aggressively sand the repair area until the fibers of the substrate are visible
- Sand the perimeter of the ding using the 60 grit sandpad that comes with the package.
- Apply Microlite directly to the ding cavity, filling it just slightly over the brim.
- Cover the wet resin with a piece of clear plastic wrap like Mylar or a piece of plastic baggie. Stretch the plastic, putting equal pressure on the resin and conforming the resin to the shape of the board's exterior.
- Irradiate with sunlight for a minute or two, depending on your climate zone. It is advisable to dodge and flash the light to the ding if the sun is extreme like in the Tropics.
- Once cured, carefully peel off the plastic wrap.
- OPTIONAL - you may decide to put a top coat of Solarez Fiberfil. This is for added strength and gloss.
