Product Info

The Pyzel The Ghost Squash Surfboard is a version of the Ghost that came about from JJF’s constant desire to experiment with new tweaks on his favorite boards. John’s feedback from his first few sessions on it were simple - the board felt really good, familiar like his favorites, but the squash tail felt fresh, fast, a bit more snappy and still held the rail through all of his turns. He immediately suggested that Pyzel should make that version available for everyone to try and they loved the idea, so here it is.

Product Construction

Polyurethane/Polyester Resin (PU/PE)
A board built in PU/PE means that Pyzel uses a Polyurethane foam blank and they glass it with Polyester resin. This is how the majority of today’s surfboards are built. It is how Pyzel has been making boards for years, and these materials let them make a very stable, strong, consistent, and high-performance board that has the feel that most people are used to.

PU foam is closed celled, meaning it won’t easily soak in water if you ding your board, and that also means that it doesn’t absorb too much resin when getting glassed, keeping your board light. Many surfers prefer the feel of PU/PE boards because that is what they have ridden all their lives, and because they feel really good.

At Pyzel Surfboards, they use only the best foam blanks, highest quality fiberglass and resin, and hire the best craftsmen in the industry. The result is light, tight and bright high performance, reasonable priced boards that look beautiful and work great. Below are the glassing options they offer for PU boards.

Additional Info

”Pyzel

Pyzel is building the boards directly off of John’s most recent file which has some small thickness adjustments made over the past winter season, but the most significant difference is in the tail.

Pyzel pushed out the round tail into a semi pulled-in squash which straightens out the last 12 inches in the outline and adds extra lift and creates more of a pivot point than you get out of the classic version. This small change adds a bit more versatility to the Ghost in the lower wave ranges that you might want to ride it in, while still keeping that classic feeling of Ghost magic in good/bigger waves.

Built directly off of JJF's most recent (2026) Ghost file. Many of the same overall Ghost characteristics that you know and love. Pulled-in Squash tail adds lift in tail area for increased lower end performance without losing hold through turns. Squash tail improves the pivot point for a sharper turning radius.
