Additional Info

O'Neill uses recycled ocean oyster shells in place of calcium carbonate powder which comprises approximately 10% of their neoprene. O’Neill worked with their key manufacturing partner to develop a non-solvent based lamination glue called “aqua-alpha”. Aqua alpha reduces solvent usage by 600 grams per wetsuit compared to traditional laminating glues. Eliminates harmful VOCs and has the same durability as conventional, solvent-based Wetsuit glues. From recycled polybags to 100% recycled paper and soy based inks hang tags. Conserving water, energy and virgin materials. 100% digital catalogs. Dope-dying infusion produces colored yarns without the dyeing process. This saves tremendous amounts of water while reducing energy consumption and water pollution (up to 80%). 26% carbon emission is reduced for every kg of fabric. Every blueprint full suit saves more than 1 lb/0.5 kg of harmful plastic from potentially polluting the world’s living oceans. Carbon black is one of the key ingredients in neoprene. It can now be carbonized from scrap rubber tires using high heat to extract. 72% carbon emission declined. O’Neill’s advanced repair facility prolongs the life cycle of their product, keeping their wetsuit out of the landfill longer.

Product Construction

TB4 AIR FIREWALL
The next great thermal breakthrough was made better with trapped pockets of air. TB4 Air Firewall uses a special lamination process paired with a core of aerated neoprene and a graphene fiber jersey to create the toastiest conditions. Take summer with you.

TB4 FIREWALL
The all new Technobutter 4 Firewall utilizes the recycled graphene fibers at a thicker pile to create a fire hot feedback loop. As the body heat warms the graphene fibers they conduct the heat back into the body.

TECHNOBUTTER 4X
Technobutter 4x goes beyond the gooey stretch, and soft feel of TB3x. Recycled graphene fibers line the jersey allowing for incredible stretch with added strength and warmth retention, all with a new look.

TECHNOBUTTER 4
TB4 builds on the legendary Technobutter 3, the next evolution of the jersey introduces recycled yarns infused with graphene for increased wear strength and heat retention.

F.U.Z.E. ZIP CLOSURE
Front Upper Zip Entry (chest) uses a free floating zipper panel and anti flush barrier with drain holes to keep you dry and feeling loose.

STITCHLESS
Exterior Fluid Seam Weld and Interior TB3X Tape on either side of a stitch-less seam takes wetsuit construction to the next level. The all-new combination of reliable durability and low-profile comfort simply can’t be beat.

Pros and Cons

I'm die hard on the Psycho Techs, they're by far the warmest and most comfortable suits I've owned. That being said, the 22/23 model of the 4/3 feels (and looks) super bulky compared to the previous years models, and the fit is a little different: it's weirdly constricting and not as stretchy and chafed the crap out me in a couple spots. I actually thought I'd grabbed the wrong size, and it's bulky enough I thought maybe they made a misprint and it was really a 5/4.

I wish I loved it, because I bought it and went out for a surf without trying it on, because all the psycho techs I've had to date have fit great and been pretty consistent the whole way through. My bad on that one, but it didn't even cross my mind that it wouldn't fit great, especially being the 4/3 which is usually pretty stretchy and forgiving.

I'll keep slathering myself up with Aquafor and trying to make it work and maybe it'll break in after a bit, but I'm not holding my breath. On the plus side, it's a hella toasty suit! It really does feel about as warm as my last years' model 5/4.
