Additional Info

O'Neill uses recycled ocean oyster shells in place of calcium carbonate powder which comprises approximately 10% of their neoprene. O’Neill worked with their key manufacturing partner to develop a non-solvent based lamination glue called “aqua-alpha”. Aqua alpha reduces solvent usage by 600 grams per wetsuit compared to traditional laminating glues. Eliminates harmful VOCs and has the same durability as conventional, solvent-based Wetsuit glues. From recycled polybags to 100% recycled paper and soy based inks hang tags. Conserving water, energy and virgin materials. 100% digital catalogs. Dope-dying infusion produces colored yarns without the dyeing process. This saves tremendous amounts of water while reducing energy consumption and water pollution (up to 80%). 26% carbon emission is reduced for every kg of fabric. Every blueprint full suit saves more than 1 lb/0.5 kg of harmful plastic from potentially polluting the world’s living oceans. Carbon black is one of the key ingredients in neoprene. It can now be carbonized from scrap rubber tires using high heat to extract. 72% carbon emission declined. O’Neill’s advanced repair facility prolongs the life cycle of their product, keeping their wetsuit out of the landfill longer.

Product Construction

TB4 AIR FIREWALL
The next great thermal breakthrough was made better with trapped pockets of air. TB4 Air Firewall uses a special lamination process paired with a core of aerated neoprene and a graphene fiber jersey to create the toastiest conditions. Take summer with you.

TB4 FIREWALL
The all new Technobutter 4 Firewall utilizes the recycled graphene fibers at a thicker pile to create a fire hot feedback loop. As the body heat warms the graphene fibers they conduct the heat back into the body.

TECHNOBUTTER 4X
Technobutter 4x goes beyond the gooey stretch, and soft feel of TB3x. Recycled graphene fibers line the jersey allowing for incredible stretch with added strength and warmth retention, all with a new look.

TECHNOBUTTER 4
TB4 builds on the legendary Technobutter 3, the next evolution of the jersey introduces recycled yarns infused with graphene for increased wear strength and heat retention.

F.U.Z.E. ZIP CLOSURE
Front Upper Zip Entry (chest) uses a free floating zipper panel and anti flush barrier with drain holes to keep you dry and feeling loose.

GBS SEAMS
Blind stitched and triple glued to create a watertight seam, for increased durability while allowing the maximum stretch possible in a sealed seam.

Super warm, but restrictive

I was so relieved to get this suit, because my 4/3 hyper freak (same size), seemed to have gotten worn out after two years, and I have been freezing in Baja this winter learning to kite-foil as I spend a lot time in the water. This suit is so warm, but seems a bit smaller, so that it takes two people to help me get it on. On my first kiteboarding session, the legs were so thick, I had a hard time bending my knees to get up on my kiteboard! But I’m warm so I really don’t care, and I can adapt as I know what to expect.. It’s just a lot less flexible than my previous TechnoButter 4/3. I’m assuming it will stretch out some and I’ll be fine. Just wish it had an attached hood! Thank you Cleanline surf for your excellent customer service!

Old version waaaaaay better

The OLD Hyperfreak (last year's non-FIRE version) is the best suit I've ever owner. The new FIRE version is super restrictive and not stretchy at all. Why the hell did they have to go change a good thing?! It feels like a 5/4 from the 90s. I'm pretty disappointed and now wearing my 2-year old Hyperfreak instead of this new FIRE BS...O'Neill blew it on this one...

Nice Suit, Bad Fit

I didn't want to ding the rating on this suit due to size chart snafu. I was upper range of the size chart but within the weight boundary. I'm 6'4" and 217lbs. I've read that you could size down with the regular Hyperfreaks due to how flexible they are. This Hyperfreak FIRE isn't anywhere as flexible previous model. It is probably closer to the psycho tech in flexibility department. From inspection the suit looks durable and warm, but unfortunately the fit XLT fit didn't work for me and the XXL suit is too short for me. I think suit will shine more with the durability dept compared to the previous model, and if your happy with O'Neill fit from your previous suit than you'll love this if you want to compromise flexibility for durability. The lesson is stick with the suit brand that does your size the best, and for me it's Rip Curl.

Excellent Suit in NorCal Winter

I have always worn O'Neill suits because they fit me better than other brands, which is obviously different for everyone. Ocean Beach (the Northern one) is my home break and it doesn't get as cold as the PNW by any stretch, but it still hovers between 52-56° in the winter.

I felt the PsychoFreak was by far the best suit I ever owned due to warmth, flexibility and features like wrist seals that actually seal, but for some reason they stopped making this suit (no idea why) and replaced it with the PsychoTech which I bought and hated off the bat. The 4/3+ was so stiff, it felt like I was wearing a 5m throughout and paddling was 2X the effort. The wrists leaked water the 1st time I used it and the chest zip neck flushed water by the second use. Sold it after 3 wears.

This leads me to the latest suit I bought and the first HyperFreak I have owned. The HyperFreak Fire is the stretchiest suit I've ever worn in 30 years of surfing with incredible warmth, sealed wrists that seal and simple in/off. I love it. I prefer the back zip since I can adjust the neck. This suit is sick and will likely continue buying the HyperFreak Fire when my next suit is needed.
