Product Info

Two minds combined. Rob Machado and Dan Mann have created the Firewire Mashup Helium Surfboard: A melding of each of their most popular designs; the Seaside and the Spitfire.

Both board designers have spent time mixing and matching their favorite elements of each shape, and they’ve landed at something that goes fast in weak waves as well as a Seaside, and also drives vertically in good waves as well as the Spitfire. The Mashup is the ultimate groveler. And the ultimate everyday board as well. Built in Helium Technology, it’s one of Firewire's absolute favorite boards for 2022.

Product Construction

Helium Core Technology
A stringerless EPS core with flex controlled at the rails made from Paulownia and Balsa wood - this construction is light and lively underfoot, and excellent at generating speed in everyday waves.

Additional Info

Wave Type
With DNA from the Seaside and Spitfire, the Mashup goes fast in weak waves, but also drives vertically in good waves - a true everyday hybrid. Recommended in 1-5' surf, skewing towards average-to-poor/flat conditions.

Board Features
This shape immediately makes you feel like you've got speed and buoyancy to burn. A hybrid nose that keeps plenty of paddle up front, with step rails towards the back third of the shape to pack in extra volume. A double concave runs throughout the bottom, becoming more extreme from the center to the tail.

Helium Core Technology

Firewire Product Construction Helium Core Technology

This is your ideal technology choice for generating speed in weak, everyday waves. The Firewire Helium technology is a stringerless 1.0 lb EPS foam core with flex controlled with rails made from Paulownia and Balsa wood, running the complete length from nose to tail, combined with a 3mm proprietary aerospace composite deck skin.

The wood rails enable a lively flex in the rail that gives a loaded-up, spring-back feeling, and the deck skins make your board feel this way for a long time.

Helium deck skins are beneficial for both durability and performance - and have a memory that will rebound back to form after being compressed, making it very responsive in addition to keeping your deck surface pristine for many years.

Helium Performance
Ideal for generating speed in weak, everyday waves - this is your choice if you want unmatched response, lightweight and durability. Helium has a lively, responsive flex underfoot, and surfs quickly and explosively when creating tight angles.

Great Grovler for PNW

I picked up a Mashup from Cleanline between Christmas and New Years last year, since then I have surfed since then I have surfed it in Hawaii (Oahu) and my regular Newport breaks. I have run all the fin configurations with quad being my favorite (and I guess this is what the board was mostly designed for) I found the twin/+1 way to racey and my mind couldn’t keep up with the board. It performs best for me in the 2-4’ wave range and feels amazing underfoot especially while on the rail. I do find it sluggish with a thruster but was likely a poor choice on smaller days. I would recommend this board to anyone looking to get onto a shorter board in sluggish conditions and is so much fun with the added advantage of hardly needing to paddle into most waves. For my skill level I start having trouble with it on more steeper punchy faces. Likely heading down to Mazatlan in Mexico in a month or two and this board will definitely be making the trip.
