The single fin setup is the original design, known for smooth control and classic style. Single fins are typically longer and wider, offering stability and flow, while deeper fins with larger area provide even more hold. They remain most common on longboards, mid-lengths, and guns, where clean lines and reliable control are essential. Many niche designs like eggs and gliders also favor single fins, while funboards and other shapes sometimes include single or 2 + 1 setups for versatility. In a 2 + 1, a larger center fin pairs with two smaller sidebites, adding lift, control, and stability through turns.
