Brief History of Cleanline Surf

Cleanline was founded in 1980 with humble beginnings by local Pacific Northwest surfer Josh Gizdavich and partner Jack Molan. Josh grew up in Seaside, OR, and started surfing as a teen in the early 70’s. They started Cleanline in a space that previously housed Josh’s Father’s medical practice, located on 1st Avenue in Seaside. Their initial motivation for starting the surf shop was a means to feed their addiction and provide gear for themselves and their friends. They couldn’t afford to stock much gear, so they improvised as best they could. Josh would sell his own personal boards, building leashes out of bungee cords. They offered six wetsuits, one in each size, for their customer to try on. The wetsuit would then be special ordered, which took a couple of weeks to arrive. As time went on and word spread, the business and its offerings grew, and surfers from Southern Oregon, Washington state and Canada became new customers. If you dared to explore the frigid open waters of the Pacific Northwest, Josh was the guy to talk to.

By 1994 Cleanline opened a second location in Cannon Beach, OR. In 1998, Cleanline expanded online with an e-commerce store, reaching a broader audience. The team recognized that surf gear was not only wanted but needed all across the United States. Access to the latest cold-water surf gear was very limited at the time, and Cleanline filled the void.

Since then, Cleanline Surf has provided cutting-edge gear, rentals, knowledge, and insight for 45 years. Today, if you walk into Cleanline, you’ll discover a store that is half surf shop, half surf museum, with one of the largest and most impressive quivers of vintage boards you’ll find anywhere. You’ll likely find Josh on the floor still selling boards and wetsuits and sharing surf stories to new and old generations. His love and passion for surfing is reflected in his genuine care for his customers and commitment to personalized service. Josh says Cleanline has grown into a much more rewarding experience than he ever could have imagined. He feels so fortunate for all the friendships he’s made and the love he’s received over the years. “It’s been a great ride!”

Since 1980, Cleanline has been the leader of the cold-water surf industry, earning its title ‘The Northwest’s Original Surf Shop’.

Cleanline Traction Pad - $42.00

Cleanline-Traction-Pad

The Cleanline Traction is a bang-for-your-buck traction pad with a personal touch to it. With the high-grade stick adhesive backing and textured diamond grip, the Cleanline traction is well worth the price, not to mention the Cleanline logo for a personal touch.

The Eco-friendly plastic-free packaging adds superior distribution through a sustainable process. Not only is the traction sustainably distributed, but it is also durable and long-lasting. One of the standout features of this three-piece traction is the 20mm tail kick ramp, which keeps your back foot in place while performing any aggressive maneuvers.  If you need a surfboard traction pad with a simplistic design that has everything you need for performance surfing, don’t hesitate to consider this trusted traction.

Cleanline AM-Comp Apex Series Tri Fin Set - $90.00

Cleanline-AM-Comp-Apex-Tri-Fin-Set

The Am-Comp Apex try fin set is a Cleanline Surf and NVS collaboration. The fins are Futures-compatible and will work on any surfboard with Futures fin boxes. With a wide base and mild sweep, this thruster fin set will offer the drive, hold, and control necessary for high-performance surfing. The center fin is slightly smaller than the side fins, which allows a quick release and pivot when needed.

Offered in medium and large sizes, this tri-fin set is suitable for smaller or bigger surfers alike. When selecting a size, consider your skill level, weight, and intended purpose. The fins are cut from a CNC machine and have a precise foil. NVS specializes in fins and makes some of the best fiberglass fins on the market.

Cleanline JG Apex Series Tri Fin Set - $90.00

Cleanline-JG-Apex-Series-Tri-Fin-Set

The JG Apex Surf Fin collaboration of Cleanline and NVS produces a thruster that is more upright-shaped than the Am-Comp Apex Series. The fin set is made of G10 fiberglass and epoxy resin. It is lightweight and has a nice flex pattern for a fiberglass fin. The flex gives a forgiving feel and helps you generate speed while pumping down the line of a wave.

With a small tip and upright profile, this thruster fin template is expected to be loose and responsive. The more upright a fin is, the easier it is to pivot on short notice. If you want to make as many turns as possible on one wave face, these would be the fins to go for. Not to mention, the material used is one of the strongest fin constructions available.

The 12” Cleanline Tie-Down straps are perfect for strapping down surfboards and gear. They are meant to be used with a roof rack. The tie-down straps are easy to use and securely fasten down your gear. The Cleanline team uses these straps in the rental fleet, and they work great for getting surf gear from A to B. By strapping your waxy surfboards to the top of your car, you can save space and protect your car seats. The Cleanline surf logo is the cherry on top!

Cleanline Shoreline Hooded Changing Poncho - $44.00

Cleanline-Shoreline-Hooded-Changing-Pancho

The Cleanline Hooded changing Poncho is perfect for changing in and out of your wetsuit at the beach. Not only is it suitable for changing, but it is also comfortable to hang out in post-surf. It is a thin polyester/nylon material, so it isn't the warmest pancho on the market. However, it is very comfortable, lightweight, and dries fast. Made of the highest quality material, Cleanline wants clients to be satisfied with their purchase. Like the Cleanline wetsuit, the Shoreline changing poncho is top-tier for surf panchos and is a great price. The drawstring hood is a nice feature to keep you toasty, like your backpacking sleeping bag on a brisk morning in the mountains.

The Cleanline Bunker hooded changing poncho is similar to the Shoreline hooded changing poncho but offers additional features. One of the main additional features is the Zip pocket on top of the Kangaroo pouch. It is a perfect place to store your car keys and valuables so they won’t fall out of the side pockets. Another standout feature is the 20% Nylon, which is more durable, flexible, and quick-drying than the Shoreline poncho. Cleanline is stoked to offer the sleek logo and black colorway as well.
