Size Chart: Wetsuit Surf Boots Sizing Guide

When it comes to sizing wetsuit boots and surf booties it can be difficult to know what size to get. Some brands run smaller than others, and wetsuit boot sizing is for the most part unisex. We hope this fit guide helps, but please also know that individual preferences may vary on how you may want your boots to fit. This size chart is designed so your booties will fit snug, and keep you warm without discomfort. Keep in mind that booties do stretch and conform to your feet after multiple uses. Also, if you have a wide foot you may consider going up a half size from what the chart says. If you are unsure about selecting the right size, please do not hesitate to call us!

Wetsuit Booties FAQ

How should surf booties fit?

Surf booties should fit snug around your feet and ankles. Not so much that they cut off circulation, or force your toes to curl, but form fitting enough that you don't have a bunch of space for your foot to slide around, or excess water to hang out and weight you down. If you buy booties that are too small they may be uncomfortable, and cut off circulation, resulting in your feet getting cold when they shouldn't be. If you buy booties that are too big, you may lose dexterity and find your self tripping over your feet that are now larger and more difficult to manage than they would normally be. Also a boot that is too big will let more water in, and your body will have to work harder to keep warm.

I normally wear a size 14 or 15 Mens Shoe. Do they make booties that big?

There are options for you, but unfortunately your selection is limited in the surf bootie world. The O'Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe and Round Toe Booties are made in a size 14 and size 15. The Deep Sea Lo Pro 3mm Booties are made in a size 13, but run big so you can wear them if you are a size 14. Deep See makes other thicker booties in size 13, but often do not stock them. Keep in mind you can call us to special order!

What about layering with a wool sock or thermal sock?

Layering with a wool sock or a Hotline Thermal Sock is a great way too add warmth to your booties among other things. Because booties are not made in half sizes, it can sometimes help to fill in the extra bit of space you may have if you are in between sizes. Also, if it is freezing cold out and your wetsuit is still wet around the ankles, having a sock on when you put your suit on will prevent the icy shock around your ankles. These socks also make it easier to put on a wetsuit, and wetsuit booties because they slide against neoprene much better than your bare feet. Just be sure that if you are using a sock that it is either wool or polypropylene, because cotton and other materials will just bog you down and make you colder. Another thing to keep in mind is that Split Toe Boots are going to need a very thin thermal sock if you want to try to layer, but most people would find it uncomfortable so we recommend Round Toe Boots when using this method.
