I will be honest 2xl shorts are hard to come by particularly in Canada, so I was really happy to have a suit that fits. Excellent range of motion and more than warm enough to surf the east & west coast of Vancouver island. Surfing river mouths in February in a 4/3 and toasty. Thanks to cleanliness for getting it to me in short order. Put it to work right away

Heat 4/3 back zip, no hood review
I don't surf anymore, now in my 70's. But I still kiteboard so my application is a little different than a surfer.
To me, the pros of the back zip Heat 4/3 wet suit are #1 the fit of the O'neill XXL or XXLS for the guys like me that run to the 'stocky' side. 45" chest & 37" waist, 195 pounds with arms & legs that have meat on them. The technoButter 3 neoprene is really what they say it is ... flexible & warm. The entry into the back zip is wide & it's easy for me to slide my limbs in & zip it up. The leg cuff is tight so that does require a little effort getting a leg into & out of but it's a tight seal. My friends complimented me on the fit of the XXLS ... 190 pounds & 5'8" tall.
In February 54 degrees water which I realize is warm compared to water further north than Santa Barbara, the 4/3 neoprene is very comfortable. I was dry & warm throughout most of the wetsuit with one exception ... the back zipper. As mentioned above, I would recommend an undershirt of some sort that had 1 or 2 mm of torso coverage to prevent that chill in the back. It's not a lot of leakage, but it's enough to feel it.
There is a flap of an inch or so behind the zipper but it's not like a liner extending across the back. On the other hand, those back liners can be annoying reaching back to find the neck collar & pull it overhead. Then trying to zip up over the liner which invariably catches in the zipper. Anyway, I see pros & cons to eliminating the back liner in favor of a simple flap.
I'll keep it for the warmer water days above 60 degrees or so when the leakage isn't a big factor. I love the fit, the technobutter 3 neoprene stretch & lightness, the red liner & the collar is comfortable on my neck. That neck collar fit is important, snug but soft. I really like that. I have a thick neck.
Mainly, I love the fit of the neck, arms, torso & legs. O'neill allows for some beef on the bones.
