New for this summer comes two very different but very versatile shapes from the mad scientists at Lib Tech. Check out the short reviews below of the Pickup Stick and the Round Nose Fish Redux. Also Lib introduces a new size in the Short Round for 2017.
Round Nose Fish Redux
New for 2017, Lib Tech and …Lost are joining forces again to bring maybe the most popular fish design of all time to life in Lib’s eco-friendly technology. An insanely versatile board, the Round Nose Fish Redux is a modern take on the classic Round Nose Fish model made by popular by the surf film “5’5” 19 x ¼”.
The Round Nose Fish is often credited as starting the resurgence in fish models over the past 20 years and for the Redux, master shaper Matt Biolos took all those years of feedback to create the best Round Nose Fish yet. The Redux features an updated rocker and winged swallow tail to help keep this board fast and skatey through mushy waves but hold in bigger better waves.
This board is well suited for a wide range of ability levels and waves.
|5’6″||19 1/2″ x 2 5/16″||28.5 CL|
|5’8″||20″ X 2 1/2″||32.0 CL|
|5’10”||20 1/2″ X 2 9/16″||35.0 CL|
|6’0″||21″ X 2 11/16″||39.0 CL|
|6’2″||21 1/2″ X 2 1/2″||42.0 CL|
The Pickup Stick is a mid-length that gives you the quick performance feel of a much smaller board with all the float of a longboard allowing you to get into almost any wave you look at. With a full outline and wide, concaved nose for noseriding, the Pickup Stick is a super user-friendly fun shape. But it’s refined rails through the rounded pin tail, make the Pickup Stick surprisingly responsive and help it to work in a huge range of conditions.
The Pickup Stick is really unlike most mid-lengths or fun boards and brings a lot of different ingredients together to make a board that could fit into any surfer’s quiver. This would be a great board for beginners transitioning down from a longboard, groms, a big guy shortboard or just a good ol’ fashioned mid-length for smaller, softer days.
Update for 2018: Lib Tech has now introduced the 7’6″ Pickup Stick. It’s the same exact shape and outline just a little longer with more foam.
Check out this video of legendary Santa Cruz, CA/ Washington shaper Dane Perlee riding one:
|7’0″||21 1/4″||46.5 CL|
New 6’2 Length for the Short Round
Finally, for this year Lib has added a 6’2″ to the performance hybrid Short Round. The Short Round is a super fun board for poor to fair waves and the 6’2″ seems right for bigger surfers or beginners.
|6’2″||21 1/2″ X 2 5/8″||42.0 CL|
