Quiksilver has announced their soon to be release zipper less wetsuit. It’s not the first by any means, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen them in production. The idea behind a zipper less wetsuit is that it adds flexibility. Zippers are not flexible. The chest zip entry replaced the zipper less wetsuit, but now it’s coming back around. Rip Curl also has a wetsuit without a zipper on the slate for a 2013 release.

O’Neill Pyrotech 5.5/4mm Wetsuit
The new Pyrotech 5.5/4mm Hooded Wetsuit is in. These are Fall 2013 wetsuits from the O’Neill line and Cleanline Surf is the first to have them. The Pyrotech wetsuit is the replacement to the O’Neill RG8 wetsuit series and this year it has been revamped with the new TechnoButter Neoprene exclusive to O’Neill’s wetsuit line. Basically this is my new favorite wetsuit. O’Neill took their RG8 series, which was already my favorite suit, and took out the poly-fleece lining, and replaced the neoprene with the lighter, and more flexible TechnoButter Neoprene. “In 1953 we invented the first practical wetsuit, which revolutionized surfing and diving. We came up with the phrase “fits like a glove” and Body Glove was born.”
— Bill & Bob Meistrell
We are excited to put these suits to the test in the near future. Look for product reviews, and previews coming soon.
The Rip Curl Flash Bomb Wetsuit has done it again. Winning the SIMA Wetsuit of the Year Award for the 2nd year consecutively. Here’s the press release from Rip Curl, followed by a trailer video for the SIMA Awards that were held a few days ago.
Costa Mesa, CA (February 9, 2013): The Best Just Got Better. Rip Curl’s extremely honored and humbled to win the 2012 SIMA Image Awards’ “Wetsuit of the Year” for the FLASH BOMB for the second consecutive year. The awards took place this past February 7 at The Grove Theater in Anaheim, California.
The award, which aims to recognize the wetsuit that “featured the most exciting design, appeal, or innovation”, was a true credit to the Rip Curl wetsuit department who took the success of the award-winning Flash Bomb and worked diligently to improve it.
Boasting Flash Lining, which wicks water from the interior of the suit within seconds of being exposed to the air, the FLASH BOMB is dry to the touch in roughly 15 minutes after surfing when hung up; hence, “World’s Fastest Drying Wetsuit”.
Rip Curl would like to thank and recognize all the valued specialty retail partners nationally who have contributed to the success of the FLASH BOMB, as well as our world-class roster of athletes who have played a major role in the development process.
