The Firewire Seaside Volcanic Surfboard is a revolutionized design from the Go Fish and offers more control with a less skatey feel. Still super fun nonetheless and meant to be ridden as a hi-performance surfboard in a range of conditions, this fish is known for catching small waves and paddles well thanks to the width up front. The Firewire Seaside is meant to be ridden as a quad.
This is the new Volcanic Tech, which is a Basalt Lamination built around a Helium inner construction. Basalt has been around for years as a glass fiber alternative for extra strength and heat resistance in the Aerospace industry. This is NOT carbon although has similar characteristics in that it is much stronger than glass fiber yet is also a slightly better eco alternative.

Product Construction
Helium Core
Flexy. Bendy. Elastic. Excellent at generating speed when weak waves aren’t helping. An unmatched mix of quick response, lightweight, and durability. Helium has wood running from nose to tail on each rail similar to Timbertek but instead of being purely paulownia, Helium’s rail is built from a mix of both paulownia and balsa wood. This enables more bend in Helium’s rail when compared to the more ridged sensations of Timbertek’s rail and it makes Helium feel like it loads up on rail and springs back to form, ideal for tight turns on compact wave faces, and eruptive shows of spray when meeting the lip vertically.
Volcanic Lamination
Quicker response, stronger durability, forged in fire, this Basalt lamination enhancement for I-Bolic and Helium cores is Firewire's most durable without compromising performance.
Volcanic Repreve Technology
As the world's leading recycled fiber made from ocean-bound plastic bottles, Repreve is a sustainable innovation enabling Firewire to build strength and flex control into each Volcanic shape while simultaneously preventing plastic bottles from entering our ocean playground.
Additional Info
Basalt fiber has been around for decades yet is a relative newcomer to fiber reinforced polymers (FRPs) and structural composites as it relates to surfboard construction. It has a similar chemical composition as glass fiber but has better strength characteristics, and unlike most glass fibers is highly resistant to alkaline, acidic and salt attack making it a good candidate for surfboard manufacturing.
Compared to carbon and aramid fiber, it has the features of wider application temperature range -452° F to 1,200° F (-269° C to +650° C), higher oxidation resistance, higher radiation resistance, relative compression and shear strength.
The cloth can withstand higher temperatures than that of carbon fiber and as a result is heavily used the Aerospace industry in the creation of rockets and jet engines. The elasticity characteristics of this fiber is higher than that of traditional Carbon fiber allowing the board to have more flex for a natural feel under foot.
"Just evolving the Go Fish to something new, really. The Go Fish goes fast and feels skatey and loose and I love it, and riding it for a couple years made me want to feel more high performance - more carves, tighter turns. So the Seaside is about refining… less area in the tail, narrowing the tips of the swallow, creating more curve and narrowing the nose. All elements for ripping while the Go Fish stays cruisey and fun." —Rob Machado
