Coming in as the warmest surfing wetsuit on the market today, the Patagonia R5 Yulex Hooded Wetsuit is here for those hardcore souls that brave the coldest, most inhospitable breaks in the most bone chilling regions. An entire millimeter thicker than the super warm R4 Hooded Wetsuit, the R5 Yulex Wetsuit does one better by eliminating traditional petroleum-based neoprene and utilizing Patagonia's neoprene-free Yulex and synthetic rubber materials. What you get is a perfectly flexible, crazy warm coldwater wetsuit that does its part to make less of an impact on our environment.

The Patagonia R5 Yulex Hooded Wetsuit will keep you comfortable in waters down to the low 30's, so even when the snow is falling, you'll be smiling in the lineup. All the seams on the R5 are glued and blind-stitched for durability, internally taped for additional strength and then externally sealed to keep water out. The floating front-zip features a corrosion-proof zipper and asymmetrical flap for better seal, stretch and range of motion through the chest and shoulders. Offering the same warmth and action ready attributes as conventional stretch neoprene, plant-based Yulex rubber is blended with chlorine-free synthetic rubber to increase ozone and UV resistance to meet Patagonia's rigorous standards for strength, stretch and durability.

Patagonia's Yulex Wetsuit movement is a push to break away from the non-renewable, energy-intensive manufacturing of neoprene by embracing the use of natural and synthetic rubber, reducing CO2 emissions and helping the industry shift to cleaner and better materials. An ultra-warm, neoprene-free hooded wetsuit, the R5 Yulex takes the cake for the highest quality materials paired with cutting edge technology, made by surfers that only want the best.

Patagonia R5 Yulex 6.5/5 Hooded Wetsuit Great Suit Review by Surfing Pastor Surfing Pastor
I have been surfing since I was 11 and I am 44. I have lived and surfed all over: San Fran, Westport WA, Jersey Shore, Daytona Beach Fl and now I am stuck surfing the Great Lakes in Ohio due to my job. I have surfed a lot of cold water and for years have been an Oneill guy - never again. This is the best wetsuit I have ever owned. It is very warm - I surfed every month this winter the coldest being zero degree air in blizzard like conditions. I stayed out for two and a half hours and was warm. Last year I surfed in 19 degree temps in the warmest Oneil suit and had to get out after one wave. It is also very comfortable and stretchy. My only complaint is on my front zip R5 the opening at the neck to slide into the suit is a little too big... so duck diving, I have gotten some cold water down the suit. I am sold on Patagonia. I have an R5 and R3 and mittens, and boots in R5. Also, Cleanline is a great shop - very pleased!

I was looking for warm.. This is it. I got a big head so the neck and cap are tight..Got to have my wife help me get it off.. Otherwise..very cool..I mean very warm for an old guy in the northwest.. Keep me in the water in the winter here for a couple more years. Worth the stretch.

Patagonia R5 Yulex 6.5/5 Hooded Wetsuit Warm but Can't Get it OffReview by AEB AEB
As a cold water suit the R5 does its job better than any suit on the market. It is fire warm in freezing cold water. The reason for the 3 stars is because getting the suit on and off is a significant challenge. The first 4 times that I put the suit on I could not get in by myself. Now, with great difficulty I can get into it by myself but I can't get out of it without help. It got so bad that I ordered a second R5 in the next size up. That suit presented similar issues but was too big in the chest and waist. If you have someone to help you get in and out of the suit buy it and you will stay warm in the winter. If you are a solo surfer get a different suit.

PatagonIa Ironclad guarantee

We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were intended. Patagonia is not responsible for wetsuits that are abused or show normal wear and tear over time. Scratches and fading are inevitable, as are tears from the occasional close call with a fin.

Wetsuit Care Guideline:

  • Rinse your wetsuit with fresh water after every use.
  • After rinsing, fold in half at waist and hang dry.
  • Do not store it wet, or in direct sunlight.
  • Suit up carefully. We've selected high-stretch materials for their comfort and function. Avoid overstretching fabric and seams. Do not step on one leg to pull the other leg out.
  • If possible, change in a plastic tub or on a mat

Our wetsuit warranty does not cover upgrading your older Patagonia wetsuit to a current model. We are continuously improving our designs and materials, but that doesn't make your existing wetsuit unsatisfactory. It just means that the next one you buy will be even better than the last.

Returns are easy! We understand that in some situations returns or exchanges may be necessary. We also want you to be stoked on your purchase. If you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase you may return it for a full refund, or exchange within 30 days of receiving your order. Items must be in new condition with original tags and packaging.

Please make sure your wetsuit fits before taking it in the water. We are not able to take returns or exchanges on used wetsuits.
