Still reigning as a premium choice in hooded suits, the Patagonia R4 Yulex Hooded Wetsuit has taken the industry into the future by eliminating traditional petroleum-based neoprene and utilizing Patagonia's neoprene-free Yulex and synthetic rubber materials. What you get is a perfectly flexible, crazy warm coldwater wetsuit that does its part to make less of an impact on our environment.

The Patagonia R4 Yulex Hooded Wetsuit will keep you comfortable in waters down beyond the low 40's, so even when frost coats the beach grass, you'll be smiling in the lineup. All the seams on the R4 are glued and blind-stitched for durability, internally taped for additional strength and then externally sealed to keep water out. The floating front-zip features a corrosion-proof zipper and asymmetrical flap for better seal, stretch and range of motion through the chest and shoulders. Offering the same warmth and action ready attributes as conventional stretch neoprene, plant-based Yulex rubber is blended with chlorine-free synthetic rubber to increase ozone and UV resistance to meet Patagonia's rigorous standards for strength, stretch and durability.

Patagonia's Yulex Wetsuit movement is a push to break away from the non-renewable, energy-intensive manufacturing of neoprene by embracing the use of natural and synthetic rubber, reducing CO2 emissions and helping the industry shift to cleaner and better materials. A toasty warm, neoprene-free hooded wetsuit, the R4 Yulex is a prime example of the highest quality materials paired with cutting edge technology, made by surfers that only want the best.

Patagonia R4 Yulex 5.5/4 Hooded Wetsuit - 2017 Love this wetsuit...but...Review by Matt Matt
First off, this is by far the best wetsuit I have ever owned. Comfortable, easy to put on and take off, very warm, doesn’t tear easily, etc. etc. definitely well worth the price. My only issue with the suit are the exposed neck seams that after only an hour in the water, have rubbed my neck completely raw — and saltwater doesn’t help with that. I would definitely recommend this suit and the staff at Cleanline have been amazing but I wish Patagonia would fix this small issue.

Patagonia R4 Yulex 5.5/4 Hooded Wetsuit - 2017 Warm and well-made, but hasn't given an inch!Review by Gmoney Gmoney
Okay, wore this thing at least 30 times this winter and it has kept me warm, but it is STILL impossible to get off. Holding up well. Only some tape came off an ankle seam, otherwise looks brand new. Dang, this latex is NOT stretching out! Thought the shoulders would start to give a little more, but every time I have to take it off, it's like giving birth to yourself.

Patagonia R4 Yulex 5.5/4 Hooded Wetsuit - 2017 Super warm, still stiff compared to other brands, EXTREMELY hard to get on and off.Review by C C
I've worn every major brand of wetsuit in the last 10 years. Having worn RipCurl Flashbomb suits for the last 4 or 5 I've become accustomed to the most flexible. The Patagonia is very rigid in comparison. Constant resistance training. After a really windy cold session I was super toasty and even vented a couple times by taking my hood off. I'm saving this suit for the coldest of days. After several sessions it has loosened up a little bit but still stiiff in the neck/shoulders. Pros: super warm, more eco friendly, Ankle cuffs are elastic(revolutionary) Cons: Stiff, Insanely hard to get off

Patagonia R4 Yulex 5.5/4 Hooded Wetsuit - 2017 Super duper warm but way hard to get on/offReview by Gmoney Gmoney
First of all, I loved my old Patagonia suit that I wore for 7 years. It was lined top to bottom with Merino wool and that made it easy to slip on and off. Now there is no more Merino, and there is actually no fabric whatsoever in the arms and shoulders and they are impossible to get on and off. The rubber(wet and dry) sticks to your skin like glue. I can understand wanting to bring the price down and make the shoulders/arms lighter and more flexible, but the sacrifice is too great in my opinion. The bright side - this suit is INSANELY warm and looks like it will last as long as the last one - forever. Plus it's sustainable!

PatagonIa Ironclad guarantee

We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were intended. Patagonia is not responsible for wetsuits that are abused or show normal wear and tear over time. Scratches and fading are inevitable, as are tears from the occasional close call with a fin.

Wetsuit Care Guideline:

  • Rinse your wetsuit with fresh water after every use.
  • After rinsing, fold in half at waist and hang dry.
  • Do not store it wet, or in direct sunlight.
  • Suit up carefully. We've selected high-stretch materials for their comfort and function. Avoid overstretching fabric and seams. Do not step on one leg to pull the other leg out.
  • If possible, change in a plastic tub or on a mat

Our wetsuit warranty does not cover upgrading your older Patagonia wetsuit to a current model. We are continuously improving our designs and materials, but that doesn't make your existing wetsuit unsatisfactory. It just means that the next one you buy will be even better than the last.

Returns are easy! We understand that in some situations returns or exchanges may be necessary. We also want you to be stoked on your purchase. If you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase you may return it for a full refund, or exchange within 30 days of receiving your order. Items must be in new condition with original tags and packaging.

Please make sure your wetsuit fits before taking it in the water. We are not able to take returns or exchanges on used wetsuits.
