The Patagonia R4 Back Zip Wetsuit stands out as a non-hooded 5.5mm suit. Perfect for coldwater surfers that hate wearing a hood and don't mind the cold water on their noggin or for combining with a separate hood piece for when it's just too cold and a hood is required. The torso and thighs are lined with midweight chlorine-free merino wool; hydrophobic recycled polyester micro-grid thermal lining in the arms and legs dries fast, minimizes weight and offers excellent flex. The easy-access center-back zip entry has an internal gasket to prevent water entry and maximize comfort.

With 100% seam sealing, better fitting anatomical patterning and new fabric packages that maximize the stretch capabilities, this suit is certain to impress. If you are a coldwater surfer and want confidence your wetsuit will keep you warm, the R4 Back-Zip Full Suit is a good bet to keep you warm and stoked through the longest winter surf days.

Patagonia R4 Back Zip Wetsuit strange bat wing...Review by dfiersome dfiersome

Suit is kinda weird. It is warm, flexible and I'll assume that like my other Patagonia suit will wear well, but the bat wing feature where you pull a piece of neoprene suit over your head is vexing. The damn thing will NOT stay in place, it always creeps up my neck and after a few duck-dives/taking a wave on the head, it pops out, only to be restuffed into my suit where it won't sit well...

I can't tell what the deal is with this feature/bug... Thoughts friends? I don't want to return the suit...

Patagonia R4 Back Zip Wetsuit Boston KiteboarderReview by Aaron Aaron
This is an excellent cold-water suit! The construction is solid and it is quite warm. I purchased the back entry because I am fairly broad in the chest and shoulders and had difficulty donning the chest-entry. But, I have used this with a wetsuit hoodie and been perfectly comfortable. I have been out in 49 degree water, and am looking forward to using it in colder temps earlier (and later!) in the season. The sizing is accurate, and the legs provide enough length to cover your booties.

The only negatives are that the back zipper pull cord could be a bit longer (for those of us less flexible), and an interior zippered-key pocket would also be sweet.

Kudos to the guys at Cleanline who really know their product and helped me understand what would make the best selection. Lots of fun freebies in my box when my suit arrived.

Patagonia R4 Back Zip Wetsuit Wonderful in every wayReview by James James
I live in Northport, Michigan, and swim/bodysurf/surf/sail throughout the year. The day the wetsuit arrived (mid May) I put it on and swam in the lake, which was a cool 40 degrees (F). I was splendidly warm, and swimming around as happy as a Labrador for about an hour. The back-zip is easy to get in/out of, and I like that there is no attached hood because it extends the season that I will wear this suit. I can wear a hood when needed. The construction is as great as you would expect from Patagonia.

ALSO: The customer service at Cleanline Surf is insanely excellent. They literally sent a hand-written note saying something along the lines of, "have fun, hope you like it, let us know if you need anything at all," and the box that the wetsuit arrived in was full of Starburst candies, stickers, a free t-shirt, and some wax. These guys go above and beyond. I was really imrpessed, and I've already told several friends that they should get surfing stuff from Cleanline if it isn't available at their local shop. All in all, a wonderful experience. Have fun out there!

If you have worn one in the past be aware that the sizing has changed slightly and you may want to lean towards a smaller suit due to the increased flexibility. PatagonIa Ironclad guarantee

We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were intended. Patagonia is not responsible for wetsuits that are abused or show normal wear and tear over time. Scratches and fading are inevitable, as are tears from the occasional close call with a fin.

Wetsuit Care Guideline:

  • Rinse your wetsuit with fresh water after every use.
  • After rinsing, fold in half at waist and hang dry.
  • Do not store it wet, or in direct sunlight.
  • Suit up carefully. We've selected high-stretch materials for their comfort and function. Avoid overstretching fabric and seams. Do not step on one leg to pull the other leg out.
  • If possible, change in a plastic tub or on a mat

Our wetsuit warranty does not cover upgrading your older Patagonia wetsuit to a current model. We are continuously improving our designs and materials, but that doesn't make your existing wetsuit unsatisfactory. It just means that the next one you buy will be even better than the last.

We understand that when purchasing gifts, returns and exchanges can be necessary, which is why for the Holidays we are extending our Return Policy so that anything purchased as a gift this Holiday Season is eligible to be returned by the end of January. If you are not 100% satisfied with your product you may return it for a full refund, or exchange by the end of the month of January 2018.

Please make sure your wetsuit fits before taking it in the water. We are not able to take returns or exchanges on used wetsuits.
