Firewire Surfboards is coming out firing for 2016 with a bunch of new boards, a new website and no sign of looking back. With the somewhat-recent majority acquisition of Firwire Surfboards by Kelly Slater, Slater seems to have put in a lot of effort in a short amount of time. With a bullpen of some of the best shapers in the league (Wingnut, Dewy Weber, Daniel Thompson, Dan Mann, Rob Machado, Pyzel, Nev), Firewire has announced 9 new models to round out one of the biggest production quivers in modern surfing. With Lost shapes leaving the Firewire namesake (but going to a good home with Lib Tech), Firewire picks up the slack with a variety of shapes and styles, all with Firewire’s Ecoboard Certified Sustainable Surf ethos.
It is important to note that this list of new Firewire boards do not include the Slater Designs boards which we understand will be made by Firewire, but under the Slater Designs moniker. I’m sure we will address those boards as they are released, but in the meantime we are going to break down these boards into the categories as described by Firewire. As they have yet to be ridden by us, we will hold all opinions until we get them into the water! Here’s some boards to make it even harder to decide what your next new board decision will be.
