Trevor Gordon surfs the R3® from San Francisco to Santa Barbara in the winter. “I ride a lot of different boards and the R3® keeps me loose so I’m able to adapt easily.”
The Patagonia R4 Wetsuit has been tested and proven in the coldest weather a surfer would dare to venture out in. Check out this video where Keith Malloy talks about his recent time surfing in Norway. Imagine being able to stay warm and comfortable in this weather. No one is out. That is what the R4 is all about.
Rip Curl just shipped us a new batch of H-Bomb Heated Vests. Great for use by itself, or under a wetsuit to add that much extra cold water range. If you are braving the arctic waters of the north, slip this under a 5mm wetsuit and you will be well above the warmth of your typical 6mm suit. Being only .5mm it can easily fit comfortably under a fullsuit, or when worn alone it is light weight and flexible. According to the image above the heating element in the H-Bomb Vest covers much more of your body than leading competitors products. Coming in at $300 the price of comfort and long lasting sessions in the surf doesn’t seem so high, and backed by Rip Curl’s excellent warranty I would say this is an excellent choice for adding diversity to your wetsuit setup.
New for Fall 2012 Patagonia’s Wool Lined Wetsuit Booties and Gloves are finally here and they look bomb proof. At first glance you can see the quality in the seams, stitching, and neoprene that you come to expect from all Patagonia products. Besides being possibly the most durable wetsuit accessories we carry, the merino wool lining provides extra warmth for those cold winter days out in the surf. On top of that it also makes for an easy on and off because they wool itself slides easily against skin.
After trying on a few pairs, we noticed both the gloves and boots run a bit small compared to most brands, so you may want to go a size down. If you wear a 9 size shoe, you will want to get a size 10 boot. If you normally where a medium glove, go up to a large. The PU-Lamination is soft to the touch, but grips enough to hold on to the rails of your board. In a nutshell the new line of surf booties and wetsuit gloves from Patagonia get our seal of approval. Backed by the one of the best warranties in the business it’s a solid choice if you’re looking for a long lasting surf glove or boot. As always call us to hear our full opinion.
