Available in spring 2013, Firewire’s new Technograin surfboard construction is a fresh and more eco-freindly way to make a surfboard. The new boards will be made from Paulownia wood, a tree species that can grown up to 20ft in its first year, and a popular source of sustainable wood.
Technograin represents a significant step forward towards the holy grail of any product designed and manufactured in today’s environmentally conscious world. While by no means sustainability built, Firewire’s Technograin has by far one of the least toxic and smallest carbon footprints of any commercially available surfboard today.
And perhaps as critical when it comes to your equipment, the combination of a lightweight EPS Core, a sustainably-grown wood deck skin on both the top and bottom decks which includes Firewire’s proprietary parabolic rail construction and an entropy bio-resin hot coat without any exterior cloth, creates an extremely light weight, durable surfboard, with all of the high performance flex characteristics of Firewire’s existing technologies. Or as we like to describe Technograin………..It’s simply high performance art.
For their first run it will be available in both the Spitfire and the Baked Potato models. The Spitfire is a performance hybrid that performs well in knee high to overhead surf. The Baked Potato is a great board for mushier waves with less juice, from ankle biters to head high waves, this board can hold its own. Both boards have a five fin setup for either quad, thruster, or funky configurations.

Seems like insanity, but then again, the R4 is the warmest suit on the planet. Here is a video/interview of them departing. You can follow Kepa at his Facebook Page, or on his YouTube Channel.
Every year we ship thousands of wetsuits to people all over the world. We sell hundreds of wetsuits to people through our local brick and mortar shops. Combine those two numbers, and that still doesn’t come close to the number of wetsuits we rent out every year. We know wetsuits, and in our 30+ years of business we’ve seen and heard it all. Here is a list of the top 12 misconceptions in our experience when it comes to wetsuits. Continue reading →
