"I wanna board for 'mush'. Something short and wide, but still a hi performance shortboard….something like Dane's board", Kolohe Andino.
The challenge was laid down. Starting with the old SD, we squashed the dims to 5'6" x 19 3/4" x 2 3/16", lowered the entry rocker and shallowed out the concave through the center to straighten the rail line (for drive) and made it easier to lay such a wide platform over on a rail. Voila! Our stubbiest shortboard yet, but it still carves like a real board. Kolohe wanted to call it "The Trashcan Lid" because you don't need to go dumpster diving to get one of these.
FST relies primarily on the PARABOLIC Balsa Rail to control flex while the high density aerospace composite vacuumed to both top and bottom decks provides significant impact strength, and is stronger than the traditional PU surfboard. Please note our boards are definitely not indestructible and if slammed by a thick lip, or if you land incorrectly in the flats after doing an aerial, it is possible to break them.
The Parabolic Balsa Rail features 12mm balsa built from 3 x 4mm strips, which as mentioned not only control flex and add strength, but also act as a buffer against rail dings. Furthermore, the long-term flex memory supplied by the balsa rails ensures boards maintain their lively feel for longer.
With a retail price point slightly above premium polyurethane surfboards, FST offers an extremely high performance, durable surfboard.
Please understand that because shipping a surfboard is different for each board, location and customer the shipping cost will vary from one order to the next. To account for this variable sometimes the full shipping amount will not be reflected in your checkout total. The balance of the shipping charge will be applied after the final quote has been verified and confirmed with both parties.

When I first saw that Firewire had teamed up with Lost, I knew that there would be some really great boards coming in. I spent a lot of time looking for the right board for my summertime go to stick this last year. I had looked at, and fondled many different Channel Islands, HIC's, and Surftechs, but I wasn't finding the board I wanted. That's a little crazy considering the amount of boards we stock, but I am pretty picky. I know what I like and what I am looking for a in a shortboard. I normally go with a fiberglass board for my shortboards because I like the way they ride and feel. That being said, out of all the epoxy boards that I've ridden, the Firewires have had the closest feel to a fiberglass board. So...when we had a Firewire shipment show up, and it happened to have a 5'10" Lost Sub-Scorcher in it, I picked it up to have a look. I was super stoked on the shape, with it's wider squash tail, and just he rocker and volume I was looking for. With the added float of the epoxy, and the enhanced flex from the parabolic stringers, I knew I had found a winner. I was even more stoked when I got the board in the water and few times and started dialing it in. It paddles great, and catches waves easy. When I was up and riding the flex really carried through the turns and was super drivy. When I put it to a hard turn it came through with flying colors, and stayed underfoot great. One of the things I liked about it the most was how well it worked in everything from soft 3ft surf to solid 5-6ft good waves. It's great to find a board that works so well and can be a quiver killer. For me it is that one board I can throw in the rig and know it will work no matter what I run into. The board being epoxy has held up great and resisted dents, dings, and weathering. For me it's a true winner and a board I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. I know this board will leave me with some great stories.
