Daniel Thomson (Tomo) is a young surfboard designer from Australia who is at the forefront of modern surfboard design and construction. He has developed and refined the MPH (Modern Planing Hull) to almost its full potential, resulting in a board that both looks and rides incredibly.
Dan explains, For me, it's all about top end speed. The more speed I can generate; the more radical my performance potential becomes. The TOMO MPH is like an extension of a surfer's body. A mind surfing experience, just pick your lines and the board does the rest. It's almost as if you can forget about the board beneath your feet altogether and just interact with the energy in the wave.
Incorporating Tomo's Modern Planing Hull (MPH), the V4 was born through Daniel's ongoing quest to gain more speed and stability without compromising responsiveness and directional control. The V4 is an incredible performer, a truly state of the art design. Inspired yet again by the tail variables of the Raptor fighter Jets and executed as a planing hull design with the premise of finding the perfect balance of maximum planing area through the tail vs ideal direct control through turns. The V4 maintains a considerably narrow, forward of center wide-point and straightened rail line to emphasize the classic "Tomo post-modern Hydrofoil curve" and includes a 5/4/3 fin option.
The V4 offers the same benefits of the Vanguard in a more conventional shape. For those who want to rip the Modern Planing Hull with a little more length. The V4's clean outline, bottom contours and foil provide excellent speed and lift in small surf along with incredible hold and control when the surf is overhead.
FUTURE SHAPES TECHNOLOGY
FST relies primarily on the PARABOLIC Balsa Rail to control flex while the high density aerospace composite vacuumed to both top and bottom decks provides significant impact strength, and is stronger than the traditional PU surfboard. Please note our boards are definitely not indestructible and if slammed by a thick lip, or if you land incorrectly in the flats after doing an aerial, it is possible to break them.
The Parabolic Balsa Rail features 12mm balsa built from 3 x 4mm strips, which as mentioned not only control flex and add strength, but also act as a buffer against rail dings. Furthermore, the long-term flex memory supplied by the balsa rails ensures boards maintain their lively feel for longer.
With a retail price point slightly above premium polyurethane surfboards, FST offers an extremely high performance, durable surfboard.
