Dan Mann began building custom boards in 1996. Over the last 18 years, he has been at the cutting edge of surfboard shaping and innovation including all aspects of board building. In addition to building his own brand Mannkine, Dan has shaped and glassed boards for Channel Islands, glassed for Rusty, Xanadu, and Joel Tudor. Since then he has become the head of Design and Research & Development for Firewire Surfboards. His designs include the best selling Dominator, Sweet Potato, Potatonator, Baked Potato, and the Unibrow.
Our Marketing Director, Chuy Reyna, was looking for all the benefits of the Dominator but even more performance. The SPITFIRE combines a Diamond tail and STEP-DOWN tail rail, giving the SPITFIRE the tail bite of a thinner board, without losing the Dominator's speed and flotation. The SPITFIRE offers the same 5/4/3 fin options and a low entry rocker for easy paddling.

FUTURE SHAPES TECHNOLOGY
FST relies primarily on the PARABOLIC Balsa Rail to control flex while the high density aerospace composite vacuumed to both top and bottom decks provides significant impact strength, and is stronger than the traditional PU surfboard. Please note our boards are definitely not indestructible and if slammed by a thick lip, or if you land incorrectly in the flats after doing an aerial, it is possible to break them.
The Parabolic Balsa Rail features 12mm balsa built from 3 x 4mm strips, which as mentioned not only control flex and add strength, but also act as a buffer against rail dings. Furthermore, the long-term flex memory supplied by the balsa rails ensures boards maintain their lively feel for longer.
With a retail price point slightly above premium polyurethane surfboards, FST offers an extremely high performance, durable surfboard.

- Firewire Surfboards Spitfire FST Great All-ArounderReview by George George
RatingI'm a pretty solid intermediate surfer (I'm 6'4" tall/ 175 lbs), and I went with the 6'4". This is my first Firewire, and it feels different out of the box (can't quite explain it). I've had a few sessions on the board, but last weekend is perfect to describe my experience with the Spitfire on the Oregon Coast. On Saturday, I surfed slow and sloppy Otter Rock, and I was able to catch a lot of waves and do something with them. On my other boards, I think I would have been slogged down, but the Spitfire moved really well in the garbage. Then, Sunday morning, I hit clean, overhead Pacific City-here the Spitfire was awesome, as it made late/steep drops, and really felt controlled and fun going down the line. Yes, they're pricey, but Firewire's eco-friendlier build process means these boards are built to last. Buy it from Cleanlines-everyone who works there is awesome!(Posted on 10/13/2016) 2016-10-13
- Firewire Surfboards Spitfire FST All around performance Review by SurfsWithSnooks SurfsWithSnooks
RatingI'm 6'1 200 lbs. Typically surf 35 liters volume. My Spitfire is 38 liters(I bought the 6'2). However, this board is extremely versatile for the mushy FL waves we typically get. When it starts to throw over its a little sketchy when its overhead, but still doable. Like others have said... from knee high to 1 ft overhead, this is my go to.(Posted on 12/10/2015) 2015-12-10
- Firewire Surfboards Spitfire FST favorite boardReview by micah micah
RatingThis board has quickly turned into my go to board since i picked it up. Awesome all around board that catches waves with ease, I've successfully ridden it in anything from knee high waves to slightly overhead and it works great. Super fast going down the line and the step down rail on the tail makes it perform well through turns. All together just an awesome all around board for a variety of wave conditions.(Posted on 10/7/2015) 2015-10-07
- Firewire Surfboards Spitfire FST Skaty Speed and PerformanceReview by Matt - Cleanline Staff Matt - Cleanline Staff
RatingThis is one of my favorite all around boards. I'm riding this in a 5'8 but have been thinking about picking one up in a 5'6. I'm 5'11 and 160lbs...intermediate/advanced. Riding this with some Dusty Payne Kinetik fins. Works great in anything from knee to a bit overhead. Catches waves like a champ and with the low rocker it is super fast and easy to ride.(Posted on 3/24/2014) 2014-03-24
